Stay Warm with Gold Star Heating

Your boiler is one of the most important items in the modern home, providing  domestic hot water to our taps and showers, as well as providing the warm water to fill and operate our central heating systems. For this reason it is essential that you have your boiler serviced regularly, to ensure that everything is in working order, and to prevent any nasty surprises down the road.

It is recommended that your gas  system is serviced every  year - especially if it has been recently installed to ensure your manufactures warranty remains valid.  This will also guarantee that your system is  running as efficiently and effectively as it has since day one. Not only will it run like new, but will greatly extend the life of the system.

Our servicing is always carried out by a qualified engineer and we will always go the extra mile that other contractors will not. Our engineers are trained to check for potential future problems before they occur and can identify issues before they become a problem. Below is an example of a typical service check  list that we carry out for our clients.

  • Visual inspection

The engineer will visually inspect the boiler, clean and adjust components as required, look for any signs of wear or damage.

  • Operation and control

Your boiler has a number of controls and safety devices that will be tested for correct operation. Our engineer will check that all of the boiler functions are working correctly, should they be required.

  • Flue and combustion releases

The engineer will check the construction, termination and route of the flue (pipe from your boiler to the outside of your house). They will make sure there are no obstructions in the flue terminals and that the flue is safely fitted.

  • Clean the main boiler components

During a boiler service, the engineer will remove, inspect and clean the main components in the boiler to ensure they are fit for purpose and have no noticeable defects. This will include the main burner, heat exchanger, flue ways, and ignition pins.

  • Water Quality Test

Confirm the quality of the water to identify corrosive chemicals and adding inhibitive system protection additive where required.

  • Checks and Tests!

There are lots of tests to tick off during a boiler service checklist inspection. These include:

Flame sense device and whether it operates correctly

Pilot burner and any cables and probes

High-limit thermostat

Boiler operation

Provision of adequate ventilation

Boiler water pressure check

Flue effectiveness

Heating controls

Electrical wiring connections

Location of the boiler and nearby combustible materials

Gas and pressure flow

Safety devices

Seals

  • Ensure the boiler is ready for use

Typically one of our boiler services will take between 45 mins to an hour.

FAQ's

Should i have a contract?

Why should I be wary of companies offering a service contract:

  • You pay in advance for service that most of you never use.
  • They sell insurance.
  • Your boiler must break down to use their service!
  • Band-aid repairs! You cost them money when you call for service.
  • Inconvenience at it’s best. First your boiler must break then you must wait!
  • Most of these companies are not licensed installers and often sub-contract the work to un-vetted engineers.

How often?

It is recommended that every gas burning appliance be inspected and cleaned annually by a qualified service technician.   This also ensures that your boiler remains within the manufactures warranty for as long as is applicable.

Should I have a filter fitted?

It makes sense to protect your boiler from day one to ensure that dirt and sludge has had time to build up and cause a problem.  If ignored, this mixture of metallic and non-metallic deposits can build-up to the point where your radiators have cold patches, your boiler's efficiency is drastically lowered, and your energy bills are raised.
